Space Apps is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and others in cities around the world, where teams engage with NASA’s free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space. Space Apps 2018 included over 18,000 participants at more than 200 events in 75 countries. Your challenge is to develop green infrastructure solutions for complex challenges in water management and risk reduction. Create a tool to assess the characteristics of an urban or rural area of your choice, and integrate green infrastructures, or nature-based solutions, into that region’s development plans to 1) reduce flood and/or drought risk, 2) establish sustainable land use practices, 3) support water management,Spot That Fire V2.0Your challenge is to create an application that leverages NASA's near-real-time and archival wildfire datasets along with other tools to support firefighting and fire mitigation efforts. Allow the user to follow Webb on its journey from launch to its final destination in orbit a million miles away from Earth!The Trans-Neptunian SpacewayLike the Trans-Siberian Railroad linked remote parts of Asia to the West, the Trans-Neptunian Spaceway (TNS) takes tourists and entrepreneurs to the newly accessible region of our solar system beyond Neptune. Your challenge is to develop marketing materials and/or tools for the Trans-Neptunian Spaceway!<h3>Hosts: </h3>Tarik :Tarik Moody is one of Milwaukee’s most distinctive on-air personalities, the evening music host and digital director for 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, where he also produces and hosts his weekly show, the Rhythm Lab. Tarik is also the founder of 88nine Labs: series of tech talks and hackathons in Milwaukee to connect our technology and creative scenes—and merge diverse voices and talents from both.Romke:Romke de Haan has been a business and technical strategist for the past 23 years. A native Milwaukeean, Romke has launched numerous business and has worked for organizations like Microsoft, Razorfish and the US government. Romke is currently a Principal at GuidePoint Security a cyber security firm helping some of the largest organizations in the world with security.Romke is on the board or advises many national and global organizations in address the skills gap or incarceration of young peopleNadiyah:Nadiyah is founder of Jet Constellations. Jet Constellations is a local software company that functions to promote STEM education in Milwaukee, accelerate tech-oriented startups, and build a nurturing ecosystem of diverse techies and entrepreneurs.
