Skills Training Description: Effective cybersecurity and compliance encompass People, Processes, and Technology. Interfacing with non-technical stakeholders is an important part of a security professional's career. During this four-hour workshop, we will examine the "People" and "human" components of security. Three experienced professionals will share their expertise individually and during a panel discussion, followed by an opportunity for participants to practice concepts.


This workshop will help participants better understand and appreciate the important role "soft skills" play in security professionals' careers, improving their ability to interface with non-technical stakeholder. Topics will include:


TOPIC #1 - The Importance of Proper Business Communication for Cybersecurity Professionals


  • Cybersecurity Pros from the outside looking in (Is perception reality?)
  • How generational differences can impact communication in the workplace
  • Tips for effective communication in the workplace


TOPIC #2 - The Art of Effective Speaking


This presentation delves into the intricacies of effective public speaking, exploring key elements that contribute to impactful communication. From mastering body language and vocal modulation to crafting compelling narratives, participants will gain practical insights and strategies to elevate their speaking skills. Through engaging examples and interactive exercises, this session aims to empower individuals to confidently convey their messages, leaving a lasting impression on their audience.

Jerry Longsworth, SIS Holdings Group COO/VP of Compliance Services

Jerry is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of extensive experience in the IT industry, spanning from senior executive roles to individual contributor positions. His career has encompassed a wide array of responsibilities, including Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Sales, US Regional Director, and General Manager across a spectrum of organizations ranging from venture-backed startups to multinational corporations. Jerry possesses a deep understanding of the intricate dynamics of the direct B2B global multinational enterprise client engagement experience.


Throughout his career, Jerry has been instrumental in building executive client relationships, managing operational infrastructure, overseeing service delivery, and leading sales teams. His journey includes notable tenures at esteemed companies such as Capgemini, Compugen, Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies, NEC Corporation of America (Advanced Technical Computing Center), Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Digital Equipment Corporation, Zenith Data Systems/Groupe Bull, and Nynex Business Centers (now Verizon).


Jerry earned his MBA in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University in 2014, complementing his Bachelor of Business Administration in Management with a minor in Finance from Texas A&M University Mays Business School.


Jerry is the Co-Founder and Immediate Past President of SIM Houston Toastmasters and has held leadership positions as the former VP of Marketing and Board Member of The Society of Information Managers. Moreover, he has served as President of the Houston Association of Information Technology Professionals and the Texas A&M Reveille Business Networking Club. Jerry also contributes his expertise as an ISSA Mentor, InfraGard Energy CSC Deputy Sector Chief and Advisory Board Member of the Computer Information Systems Program at DeVry University.

Philippe Flichy, Cykur Fractional Business Information Security Officer

Philippe is the founder and principal of Cykur, which offers fractional CiSO services to guide mid-market companies with Fortune 500 practices in building a strong cyber posture. He is a seasoned Fortune 500 executive who, among many other assignments, contributed to the security of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics intranet and demonstrated a strong entrepreneurial spirit during his successful career starting a handful of companies.


Philippe Flichy is a long-time member of Infragard (a partnership between the FBI and members of the private sector for the protection of U.S. Critical Infrastructure). This puts him in a unique position to best figure out how to help Mid-Market companies build their cyber resilience.


Philippe graduated from Boston University in Management Information Systems and is a Certified Cyber Security Architect. He sits on advisory boards and has received many SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) awards. He is an international speaker, delivering over 200 presentations at various national/international conferences and trade shows worldwide.
