About this event

  • 1 hour

Get your hands dirty and learn to care for your sourdough baby!

This one-hour workshop will help you learn the proper way to care for a sourdough starter, as well as learn to identify and fix different issues and trouble with your starter (it will happen!). You’ll receive a bit of Bertha, The Sourdough Spot’s organic starter.

In this class, we will learn about:

  • Feeding schedule
  • Discarding starter
  • Ideal environmental conditions for your sourdough starter
  • Troubleshooting & fixing issues with your starter
  • Making a levain from your starter
  • When to add your starter to your dough
  • Best flour to use and buy

Owner & baker Maegan Vaughan will show you what a healthy and active starter looks, as well as an unhappy starter, in different states. We will talk about smell and visual signs, helping you learn how to identify a thriving starter and signs of hunger. We will feed your bit of Bertha, our sourdough starter, in class in a BPA-free plastic container with a lid for you to take home and enjoy.

You will also receive The Sourdough Spot's sourdough bread and focaccia recipes to try at home, and I will answer any burning questions you have about starter care.

See you at Iron District!
