About this event

Join Liz and Stephanie, the bakers of James Beard nominated Kuluntu Bakery, for an afternoon learning the art and science of sourdough baking! Our sourdough class was awarded the 2023 Best of Big D for Best Bread Class!

We will teach the basics of sourdough bread baking using just three ingredients: flour, water and salt.

During this class, you will learn:

  • How to make your own sourdough starter, the lifeblood of naturally leavened breads
  • The entire sourdough bread making process from autolyse, mixing, bulk fermentation, shaping, proofing and baking
  • How to decoratively score your bread

We will mix the dough in small groups, final shape pre-fermented dough, and bake pre-proofed loaves together for you to take home. Each attendee will shape their own loaf to bake at home the following day. Attendees will take home a bread making kit to get started at home, as well as sourdough starter.

This workshop is geared towards all levels of bakers. This workshop is geared towards all levels of bakers. Small bites and beverages will be included. Attendees will take home a bread making kit to get started at home, as well as sourdough starter. BYOB if you like!

Tickets are non-refundable, but they are transferable to another workshop if notified within one week of the class. Profits from this event will help us open a brick and mortar bakery and community space that will be focused on building stronger communities by co-creating a more equitable food system and hospitality industry with women at the center.

We never want cost to be a barrier to learning. If that is the case for you and you would love to learn sourdough baking, please reach out about discounted tickets at kuluntu@kuluntubakery.org.
