On March 4th the creators of Shaolin Jazz are hosting an opening reception for their SOUND PATTERNS exhibition featured at Honfleur Gallery

O﻿n Saturday, March 8th join the creators of Shaolin Jazz for a special opening reception to kick off their SOUND PATTERNS art exhibition at Honfleur Gallery in Anacostia. The exhibition will feature a collection of work across different mediums that explore martial arts within the Black aesthetic. The opening reception will be from 7-10pm and will feature sounds by DJ 2-Tone Jones. Plus, there will complimentary <a href="https://silencio.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">El Silencio Artisanal Mezcal</a> (while supplies last). The event is free with an RSVP, and the exhibition will be housed at the Honfleur through April 8.A﻿bout the exhibitionThere has long been a relationship between martial arts and the African diaspora which goes back for centuries. This relationship has been exhibited in a range of martial arts films where the poor and disenfranchised fight against an oppressive force. This same sense of resiliency and affinity towards martial arts culture has also been referenced in hip hop and black music throughout the ages. The original works in this exhibition will explore that relationship through mediums ranging from paint, tattoo art, graffiti, graphic design and film. The artists whose work will be featured are:<ul><li>Imani K. Brown </li><li>Maurice James Jr.</li><li>Asad “Ultra” Walker</li><li>Kojo Boateng</li><li>Christopher Everett</li><li>Terence Nicholson </li><li>Aniekan Udofia</li></ul>
