Sonic Movidas is an exploration of the intersection of Latinx cultures in music, told through short films and live music!

Join us for Sonic Movidas, an exploration of the intersection of Latinx cultures in music, told through short films curated by Austin singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez and filmed and produced by her partner Luke Jacobs (Perfecto Creative). Rodriguez hosts the program, along with her band, playing original songs and backing up our featured guest musicians between each short film. Enjoy performances from conjunto legend and Queen of the Accordion <a href="https://www.arts.texas.gov/eva-ybarra/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Eva Ybarra</a>; <a href="https://jaimeospina.bandcamp.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jaime Ospina</a>, gaitero and lead vocalist of Colombian funk band Superfonicos; and powerhouse vocalist and percussionist <a href="https://www.alexmarreromusic.com/who" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Alex Marrero</a> of Brownout. This FREE event is one in a series of community events celebrating the 50th anniversary of <a href="https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/latinostudies/index.php" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Latino Studies at UT Austin</a>. It takes place at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center on Saturday, November 6.
