This workshop is a gateway for anyone intrigued by the fusion of auditory and visual realms, offering a unique exploration into the innovative field of creative coding with a focus on audio projects using the p5js (p5js.org) JavaScript framework.In this immersive workshop, participants will:Discover the basics of sound and learn to craft interactive musical experiences and digital instruments.Create stunning audio visualizations and explore the synergy between music, art, and code.Engage in hands-on project work, live coding demonstrations, and interactive learning experiences, all centered around audio, music and code.Utilize the p5js framework and the p5 sound library to bring their sonic creations to life.What You Will Gain:A foundational understanding of the intersection between music, visual arts, and coding.The ability to create interactive and visually captivating audio projects and digital instruments.Basic understanding of the p5js programming framework, enabling the creation of innovative audio-visual projects.This workshop is based on a 14 week Creative Coding course (creativecoding.danne.design) taught by Danne Woo in the Design BFA program at Queens College, CUNY.Participants must bring a laptop.Instructor:Danne Woo, Assistant Professor, Design, Queens College, CUNYFor the last 20 years, Danne has been working as a artist, designer, engineer, and programmer in New York. He has his Masters of Professional Studies (MPS) from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunication Program (ITP) for technology and design where he focused on data driven projects, musical innovation, alternative energy and large crowd interactions. His projects have been featured on a number of blogs and magazines including Fast Company, The Guardian, Engadget, Gizmodo, The Verge, CNet and Make Magazine. He is an Assistant Professor of Design Technology at Queens College, CUNY where he teaches classes on design, art and programming. He holds the Guinness World Record for his game Splat.
