Songs of the Speechless – Studio Dan in Concert
In Songs of the Speechless, the Vienna-based ensemble Studio Dan launches an artistic intervention for unsettling times.
Marking their 20th anniversary, the group responds to today’s growing threats to human dignity and democracy. Not with silence, but with sound.
About the Concert
Premiering live at the ACFNY, this first collection of Songs of the Speechless (March–September 2025) is a cycle of short and very short compositions. Studio Dan’s flexible instrumentation and genre-bending style allow the ensemble to raise their musical voice in ever-shifting forms. Urgent, inventive, and deeply human, the concert offers a defiant alternative to speechlessness.
About the Ensemble
Founded in 2005 by trombonist and composer Daniel Riegler, Studio Dan is a genre-defying ensemble working at the intersection of composition, improvisation, and experimental music. Known for collaborations with artists like Ingrid Laubrock, George Lewis, and Anthony Coleman, the ensemble has performed at leading venues including Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Roulette Intermedium New York, and Wien Modern. Their recording Braxton et al. was nominated for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Since 2024, they have curated the concert series YOU BETTER LISTEN at Vienna’s MuTh concert hall.

ACFNY LATECOMER AND RSVP POLICY
It is of great importance to us that everyone can enjoy our events uninterruptedly. As a courtesy to our artists and our audience, please be so kind and be on time. We can only accept late arrivals to a minimum extent. Since our events are for free and we only have limited capacity in our theater, RSVPing does not guarantee entry. If you can no longer attend a free event, please cancel your reservation through Eventbrite online. Unclaimed reserved seats by 6:30 PM will be given to those on the waiting list. When we have reached the capacity of our theater, we will close our doors. In case there are still seats available after 6:30 PM, we will let people into the theater after the first applause. After that, we will close our doors for the evening. Furthermore, we reserve the right to cancel individual tickets at short notice. Priority will be given to guests visiting the ACFNY for the first time. And large bags, backpacks, and similar items must be checked in and cannot be brought into the theater.
Thank you very much for your understanding.
