I’m playing hand-picked records from my father’s jazz collection and combining them with the music of my close friend’s father’s jazz collection… as a tribute to our late fathers, the week of Father’s Day.
My dad, Ric Wheeler, was a massive jazz fan, photographer, music educator and graduate of the Hartt School of Music.
Her dad, William Theodore Blackwell II, was rad, loved Zappa and jazz equally, and had 3 original vinyl copies of Sun Ra in his collection!
When she was born, her mother asked him what he wanted to be called, she thought he’d respond, “dad” or “papa”…
His response: “oh cosmic one”
