ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Hello Death
Since the release of their self-titled debut in 2013, indie-folk group Hello Death has been a staple of the Milwaukee music scene. Their live performances explore a vast cinematic range, from minimalist piano and vocal arrangements, to soaring guitars and three-part harmonies. Pulling from porch hymns and funeral dirges, they call to mind folk greats like Elizabeth Cotten, Odetta, and Leonard Cohen, as well as indie contemporaries like Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, and Nina Nastasia. Hello Death defies genre expectations having played alongside punk and metal bands, experimental artists, and folk singers without ever seeming out of place.
Milwaukee Record writes, “Moody folk outfit Hello Death excels at sparse, haunting music that works its way into your bones like a winter chill. Made up of members of Altos…[Marielle Allschwang, Nathaniel Heuer, Adam Krause, Shawn Stephany, Erin Wolf]...the group doesn’t so much perform folk music as suggest it; Allschwang’s gorgeously airy alto, Heuer’s Nick Cave-esque baritone, and the group’s stripped-down instrumentation combine to form a sound that seems to pre-date music itself.”
Their fourth full-length album is slated for release in 2025.
Hello Death members Marielle Allschwang- guitar/violin/voice, Adam Krause- percussion, Nathaniel Heuer- bass/guitar/voice, Shawn Stephany- guitar/lap steel, and Erin Wolf- keys/voice, have been contributing to Milwaukee culture for over a decade with various musical groups, as solo artists, writers, directors, curators, and by sharing stages with touring bands; Volcano Choir, Nathaniel Rateliff, The Staves, Christopher Paul Stelling, Dark Dark Dark, Jozef Van Wissem, Christopher Porterfield and many more.

Swimming (2025) Selected Press
"Sublime... the results are so intimate and tactile that you might just feel them slip through your fingers." - Bandcamp
"Ten songs to be discovered, savored, and rediscovered" - Pop Matters
“Each song breathes marvelously, matching the searching, restless nature of Moss’s lyrics perfectly.” - Aquarium Drunkard
“To listen to Swimming, the new album by Sam Moss, is to be confronted by beautiful contradictions. Moss and his ensemble spin a gossamer web of instrumentation around Moss’ earthy voice, at once hopeful and a deliverer of weary wisdom.” - No Depression
