In April of 2019 we will host our 2nd annual Sol Summit that equips historically marginalized communities with education, training and resources to address injustice specifically in the areas of climate, environmental, and economic impacts. This annual summit is a platform that uses art & culture, workshops, hackerspaces, and makerspaces to empower attendees to return to their communities and institute SOLutions. Join us for our 3-day summit and 1 year anniversary celebration!!

Individuals from across the state will convene in Charlotte to share invaluable information on how to move the environmental justice movement forward to solutions. Join organizers, elected officials, & community members as we come together to learn and create solutions.

We will walk/run to highlight the installation of signal cabinet wraps by the Sol Collective along the Beatties Ford Road corridor and then end with a pop-up festival with Project Lift and West Side Parent Coalition. If you are interested in being a vendor then please email info@solnation.org or secure your your space online.

We leverage established relationships, engage partners, and Sol Nation membership to increase our engagement with grassroots and frontline communities. We are organizing environmentalists, teachers, preachers, artists, musicians, academics, writers, and individuals of all ages in the same space to develop the innovative ways to restore our environmental justice communities and to keep them on the path to resiliency.

We center black communities, communities of color, and southern communities who are disproportionately harmed by climate injustices otherwise known as environmental justice communities (EJ Communities). We know that it will take everyone to solve the issues so the summit is for city/county officials, organizers, community members, scientists, and anyone else who want to be part of the SOLution for climate change and environmental justice.

Our goal is to:

  • Increase the summit’s reach,

  • Provide training, resources, and a plan for solutions implementation

  • Demonstrate how to translate climate justice through the use of art, culture and our strengths

  • Connect how Environmental Justice is connected to other social movements

  • Provide hands-on makerspace for SOLutions

The summit is being held in Charlotte, NC this year and in alignment with Charlotte turning 250 years old, our goal is to be able to have 250 people attend the summit over the 3 days. Through registration and scholarships with want to have a diverse group of 250 participants who learn or share info about EJ communities and participate in developing the SOLutions.

As a connector, we will increase the amount of opportunities for SOLution based organizing, community owned SOLutions, resources, training, and education.
