This two-person exhibition features installations, photographs, and videos by Denver-based artists Mary Grace Bernard and Genevieve Waller.

StatementWith the title Soft and Shifting, we are bringing together two series of our individual works that delve into our overlapping interests in transformation, adorning and caring for the body, signs and symbols, and bringing invisible aspects of our identities—unseen disability and queerness—to the fore.Metamorphosis by Mary Grace Bernard consists of a series of photographs, videos with composed soundtracks, and site-specific installations. These works trace the continuous transformation of the artist’s “bodymind” after starting a new drug developed for cystic fibrosis. Using pink and red colors to symbolize the inside of her bodymind and her perpetual cell renewal, similar to a caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly, she envisions extruding herself from a cocoon of regenerative ectoplasm. In addition to the sounds and visuals, the installation also incorporates smell with several bottles of brewed Passion tea to invigorate new senses.The Dark Manner by Genevieve Waller includes a series of photographs, videos, and site-specific installations. Exploring queer identity, the artist has created a drag persona called The Dark Manner—a combination of leatherman, goth biker, and vulnerable romantic. Genevieve premiered this character at a performance event sponsored by the Denver-based Titwrench Collective (a group that promotes female and LGBTQ+ artists). While sporting hyper masculine-coded attire—motorcycle gear and prominent facial hair—she explores symbols of gay male culture and how gender-bending as an art form can include women, reveal unruly desires, and celebrate unexpected queer imaginings.Opening ReceptionJoin the artists for an opening reception with snacks and refreshments on Saturday, September 11th from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Gallery hours will be Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. through October 16th thereafter and by appointment. There is a $5 suggested donation, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please sign up to attend. We look forward to seeing you!Accessibility InformationMasks are mandatory! Masks are available at the door if you forget. No exceptions.The Blue Tile Gallery in Englewood, CO is on the first floor of a two-story building with a flat entrance (no steps). There are two doors you must go through before entering the gallery space. Each door is approximately 35” wide. There are no push buttons.There are two bathrooms on the first floor of the building. Ask the artists for directions and/or assistance to the bathrooms. They are not gender-neutral. They do not have push buttons. Both bathroom doors and interior stall doors are 34” wide. There are handrails in one stall of each bathroom. The building has ample, free parking; however, none of the parking spots are &quot;handicap&quot; specific. The lot is adjacent (south) to the building, and is dirt and gravel.The exhibition itself is highly sensory. There are three videos, one of which plays via projection with flashing colors, and two others play via television sets with headphones. A disclaimer about the flashing colors is posted outside the gallery. The space will be moderately lit with several pink lights.Smoking is not allowed in or around the building. There is a strong fragrance of Tazo Passion tea in the space as part of the installation. However, please refrain from wearing any scents.Music will be playing, but not loud enough to drown out conversation. We have earplugs for anyone who requests them.Seating is available upon request. We will have pre-packaged refreshments at the opening reception, such as sparkling water, fruit, and bagged snacks. We ask that visitors consume snacks in the designated outdoor area with tables.No sign language interpreter, subtitles, or dubbing is provided. There are written descriptions of images, objects, videos, and sounds in printed packets with both regular and large print; however, no braille is provided.The Blue Tile Gallery is three blocks away from Highway 285 on South Broadway. The nearest bus line is the 0 Bus and the stop is less than one block away at the S. Broadway and W.
