About this event

The Social Development Strategy Workshop is designed to help participants develop a deeper understanding of the Social Development Model and to create some firm next steps for infusing the Social Development Strategy into their communities. The workshop is delivered in two parts (session #1 is a pre-requisite for session #2) that are each 3 hours long, delivered via Zoom.

In the first session we will review the model and ensure that all participants can identify the parts of the SDS in a story designed to teach the strategy. From there we will move to developing a personalized way to explain the SDS to others. We will wrap up session one with an example of the SDS in action in a community.

In the second session we will explore examples of the SDS at work in a family program, and as an integrated strategy in middle schools. We will then spend some time diving deeper into what we know about the individual components of the strategy in order to prepare participants to start work on community-specific action plans for bringing the full power of the SDS to life.

The SDS Workshop is designed to be especially useful for groups and agencies that work directly with youth, or that provide support for such groups (such as Community Prevention Coalitions). It has also been helpful for groups trying to improve the functioning and cohesiveness of adult organizations, as the SDS model works for humans of all ages!
