28578 Mary's CtEaston, MD
Friday, Feb 27 from 9 am to 11 am
Overview

Join us for a SOAR Training & Info Session to strengthen referrals, identify SOAR candidates, and navigate real-world case scenarios.

SOAR—SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery—is a nationally recognized program that helps eligible individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness apply for SSI/SSDI disability benefits using a trauma‑informed and evidence-based approach.

This session will clarify how to integrate SOAR effectively into your client services.

Participants Will Learn:

1. Understanding the SOAR Referral Process

  • How to initiate a SOAR referral
  • Documents and consents needed
  • What happens after a referral is submitted
  • Communication expectations between providers and SOAR staff
  • Tips for setting clients up for success from day one

2. How to Screen Clients for SOAR Eligibility

  • Key indicators that a client is a good fit
  • Red flags or circumstances when SOAR may not be appropriate
  • How to differentiate SSI vs. SSDI eligibility
  • Special considerations for youth, adults, and individuals with co‑occurring conditions

3. Scenario Review: Applying SOAR Concepts to Real Cases

Participants will walk through several real‑world examples, including:

  • How to determine: Is this a SOAR case? What’s the next step?

For questions, please contact Lisa Short, BA, CPRP, Adult Population Supervisor and SOAR Lead: lshort@midshorebehavioralhealth.org
