Smith & Taylor Classics: Launch Event

Strand Book Storewas born in 1927 on Fourth Avenue on what was then called “Book Row,” an area that covered six city blocks and housed forty-eight bookstores. Our founder Benjamin Bass was all of twenty-five years old when he began his modest used bookstore and sought to create a place where books would be loved, and book lovers could congregate. Ninety years and a move over to Broadway, the Strand is still run by the Bass Family and is home to four floors of over 2.5 million used, new, and rare books, a wide array of bookish gifts, and fun literary events held almost every night of the week. From the dollar carts outside to the Rare Book Room on the third floor, and cheeky graffiti-ing throughout the store courtesy of Steve “EPSO” Powers, the iconic store now stands testament a place for book lovers to explore.

Join us for an in-person event with editors and the founders of the Smith &amp; Taylor Classics Allison Miriam Smith and Brandon Taylor for a conversation about the imprint’s release. This event will be hosted in the Strand Book Store's 3rd floor Rare Book Room at 828 Broadway on 12th Street. ACCESSIBILITY:Strand Book Store is an ADA compliant venue. Allison Miriam Woodnutt (née Smith) is an Acquiring Editor and the Publishing &amp; Publicity Manager for Unnamed Press as well as a co-founder of Smith &amp; Taylor Classics. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English &amp; Creative Writing from the University of Southern California and went on to earn her Masters in 18th &amp; 19th c. Literature from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Before Unnamed, she worked in libraries and bookshops.

Brandon Taylor is an Acquiring Editor at Unnamed Press and co-founder of Smith &amp; Taylor Classics. He is the author of The Late Americans, Real Life, a finalist of the Booker Prize and the NBCC John Leonard Prize, and Filthy Animals, winner of The Story Prize and a finalist for the Dylan Thomas Prize. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Cut, Vulture, and elsewhere.
