SECRET MOVIE CLUB presents

Part of our SECRET FILMMAKING WORKSHOP series! Wednesday, June 5, 2024

LOCATION: The Secret Movie Club Theater, 1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90021

*Please note entrance/parking is actually in the back of the 1917 Bay St building. Our entrance is NOT on Bay Street. You access our entrance from Wilson Street by turning into the street art alleyway/corridor in the back of the building. Look for our signs which are always posted on Wilson and in the corridor to guide the audience.

*7:30pm Secret Filmmaking Workshop: Staged Readings & Mixer

*Please note tonight is a special workshop. We will accept up to 7 fully completed short film scripts and/or “Proof of Concept” scripts for features for staged readings. The scripts must be 15 pages or fewer and we will allot up to 10 performers per script. So please be prepared for performers/readers to read more than 1 role if your script exceeds these limits.

Tonight will also be a crew mixers and we invite editors, composers, cinematographers, producers, production designers, casting directors, etc to attend to meet our filmmakers and performers. The point of tonight is to encourage folks to build teams to shoot the shorts. We will hold a 2024 SHOWCASE on December 5, 2024 for all shorts that are completed and ready on time. We will reach out to all our press contacts as well to work to help filmmakers, performers get exposure.

One Wednesday each month, we're inviting filmmakers and actors to come in to workshop scenes and work with each other at our Secret Movie Club Theater space.

This is part of a longer-term filmmaking community incubation project. Ultimately we will be adding once a season staged readings of scenes that have been workshopped and polished. At these staged readings, all filmmaking creatives (directors, producers, writers, actors, cinematographers, editors, etc) will be invited to hear the staged readings then form groups to SHOOT the scene.

Completed scenes/shorts will then be shown in showcases. Secret Movie Club wants to be an incubator for meeting, forming thriving creative teams, and completing filmmaking projects.

Do you have a script you’d like to hear parts of read aloud? Do you want to work on your acting chops with fellow performers? Do you want the chance to network with folks in front of and behind the camera for your next short, music video, feature, experimental project?

Well now, in a no-stress, no-pressure environment, we want to invite you to bring in your works in progress and/or come ready to do some cold readings and improvs.

Here’s how it works:

IF YOU’RE A WRITER/DIRECTOR/PRODUCER: submit a scene up to 5 pages long with no more than 4 characters (limit: one scene per team) to community@secretmovieclub.com. We’ll review it. As long as it’s not intentionally mean to any group of folks and devoid of all artistic merit you'll be considered for a spot. Up to 2 people from your team can attend (the writer and the director, the producer and the writer, etc) if confirmed via e-mail.

Please include: A 1-3 sentence logline of the scene. The genre of the piece. And a 1-3 sentence description for each character.

Filmmakers will get confirmed on a first come first serve basis, up to 5-8 scripts. So if we fill up one month, we’ll offer you a space in our next open workshop.

IF YOU’RE AN ACTOR: Please submit your headshot and resume to community@secretmovieclub.com. If we fill up our actor quota for a month, we’ll offer you a slot for the next open month.

FOR ALL FILMMAKERS: Once you email us at community@secretmovieclub.com requesting a spot, we'll confirm and send you an email with a link to tickets. Once you purchase your workshop ticket, your space is confirmed. NO REFUNDS. So make sure you can attend.

What we hope is that filmmakers and actors will connect. Each improve the work of the other. And we’ll get some movies, shorts, great cinematic works made!

So submit now!
