The Architecture Viewpoints Workshop is a critical event in development of the Smart City Interoperability Reference Architecture (SCIRA).   
Consistent application of architectural design principles is critical for information technology (IT) projects to deliver real and durable value. IT architecture is most successful when it provides insight and guidance directly to the stakeholders responsible for creating and then implementing it. As a consequence, a valuable practice (set out in <A HREF="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_42010" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010</A> and elsewhere) is to define and describe the architecture in a series of “viewpoints” that speak to the most significant of those stakeholders. These viewpoints, along with other design principles, will make up the “toolkit” provided by SCIRA.
This workshop seeks to advance the development of the SCIRA design toolkit through discussion and feedback on an initial set of stakeholder roles and corresponding views into the realization process for Smart Safe City systems. Workshop participants will engage in a series of conversations to both “inform and learn” from each other. They will then be able to identify and expand upon the most important viewpoints to be included in the SCIRA toolkit. The selected viewpoints and refined stakeholder concerns will also influence later SCIRA outputs and activities, such as deployment guides and pilot implementations.
The workshop will be open to all parties interested in participating in discussions contributing to an optimal set of architecture viewpoints. The workshop will build on the previous SCIRA Stakeholder Needs Workshop and SCIRA Hacks and the City hackathon. Focus will be IT systems for public safety in a general sense, including support for first responders, community engagement, disaster response planning, and urban resilience.

Intended Audience:
The workshop will be open to all parties interested in participating in discussions contributing to an optimal set of architecture viewpoints.   Participants from three communities will be especially welcome:

Municipal CTOs, CDOs, Chief Innovation Officers, and IT Directors, as well software engineers and software developers who have participated in the planning and execution of information technology projects, particularly for small and medium sized communities.

<LI>
Academic, industry, and non-profit researchers and organizers who work to create and disseminate knowledge of Smart City technologies and best practices.
</LI>
<LI>
Design and architecture professionals who have participated in the development of previous reference and solution architectures for IT and communications systems, and who are familiar with the standard methodologies on which SCIRA is being built.
</LI>

The focus of SCIRA is on IT systems for public safety interpreted broadly, including support for first responders, community engagement, disaster planning, and urban resilience.
 
About SCIRA: SCIRA is a project of the OGC Innovation Program sponsored by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science &amp; Technology (S&T). The SCIRA goal is to develop an interoperable framework or design toolkit that integrates commercial proprietary IoT sensors with other city datasets for public safety applications at the community level. The SCIRA Project will create and provide free deployment guides or playbooks that can help municipalities leverage the SCIRA toolkit to plan, procure, and implement standards-based, cost-effective, vendor-agnostic, and resilient smart city IT systems. The real-world applicability of SCIRA will also be evaluated through a hands-on pilot activity to be carried out in 2019 with two or more municipal partners. The architecture viewpoints workshop is organized by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). OGC is a not-for-profit consortium that provides standards and innovation in the area of Smart Cities. OGC was established in 1994 to create open standards for geospatial information. OGC continues that mission with membership from 525 organizations and partnerships with over 40 other consortia and international standard setting organizations.
