Drawing on the tools of the past is a viable option for putting up enough hay for a few animals. Join us at Tillers International in Scotts Michigan on July 7 -9, 2024. Small Scale Haymaking will cover the process of making loose hay using a variety of methods- from the scythe to the sickle-bar mower. From the hand rake to animal-powered lifts, the class is ideal for homesteaders, small farmers keeping a milk cow or a few goats, or living history professionals building their skills. Students in the class will work with their own hands, with draft animals, and with a variety of tools as we put up loose hay and construct a hand rake to take back home and use. Materials and Lunch provided.
