Description

The SLASHIE // SUMMIT

— presented by Brown Girl Magazine, Inc., in collaboration with Dallas [Intuitive], and in partnership with Dil Mil and GIPHY is an all-day experience that empowers individuals with access to influential South Asian networks, essential tools and critical knowledge they need to challenge the stigma behind creative aspirations and career paths.

Who is a SLASHIE?

Slashies are generally members of the millennial demographic, who choose to include various ‘side hustles’ in their professional titles but perhaps less lucrative pursuits to which they devote their time—in addition to their nine-to-fives.

The SLASHIE // Vision

We are a group of South Asian millennial content creators who seek to celebrate the "non-traditional" career paths and redefine professional success.

Our goal is to create a diverse, collaborative and safe space amongst creatives and enthusiasts who want to be a part of the South Asian movement.

We hope to inspire South Asians to develop a perspective within the creative conversation and pursue these passions regardless of cultural stigmas

The SLASHIE // Network

Open to South Asian millennials who have or want to quit their full-time jobs to pursue their side hustle wholeheartedly. Our summit does not limit those who wish to continue their 9-5 and creative passions simultaneously. Above all, the Slashie // Summit is an inclusive space that supports, stands with and enables all to pursue their dreams.

FAQs

What do I need to bring?

Aside from your enthusiasm to learn and meet new people, please bring your ticket (printed or mobile is fine) and valid photo / state ID. There will be two check-ins: you will first check-in with the venue security downstairs and then you will do an event check-in with the Brown Girl team on the eighth floor.

P.S. The venue has tight security and all attendees must present a photo I.D. to gain access, so don’t forget yours!

What should I wear?

We have a stacked agenda and a full day of learning, networking, and fun, so we encourage you to keep it cute and comfortable (and check the weather, so you’re prepared!)! If you need some inspiration, check out our Slashie // Summit: What to Wear Pinterest board for ideas.

Where should I stay?

There are tons of hotel options in close proximity to the Slashie // Summit venue. You can also check out AirBnB if you want the full New York City experience!

How do I get to the summit?

The Slashie // Summit is being held at WeWork (500 7th Avenue 8th Floor, New York, NY 10018). Depending where you are staying, you can take a Lyft/Uber/Taxi, walk over or take public transportation. There are several train stations just a short walk away:

-1,2,3, N, Q, R, W, 7 at Times Sq-42 St Station (4 blocks away)

-B, D, F, M, Q, R at 34th St/Herald Square (4 blocks away)

-A, C, E at 34 St - Penn Station (4 blocks away)

My ticket includes workshops, how do I know which one(s) to attend?

If you purchased a “Professional” or “Hustling” ticket, you will be receiving an email no later than Thursday, 10/18 to let you know what you know what workshops you’ll be participating in.

Note: Due to limited capacity and in order to provide a seamless experience for all, we unable able to grant any last minute workshop change requests.

My ticket includes access to the Slashie Social, how do I get there?

The Slashie // Social will be held at at GIPHY HQ (416 W 13th St, New York, NY 10014) in Meatpacking District. It’s about a mile and a half from where the summit will take place, so we encourage you to make friends and carpool — you can take a Lyft/Uber/Taxi or take public transportation.

Will you feed me?

Creativity calls for fuel! We have all our Slashie needs in mind for grub and will be providing breakfast, lunch, snacks and dessert at the summit. We’ll also provide our mixer guests with small bites, beer, wine and dessert! A big thanks to our food/beverage partners!

Why are tickets non-refundable?

In order for Slashie Summit to be a positive experience for all, ticket sales are vital to ensure all panels, workshops and networking opportunities are planned with a final headcount so each attendee receives the best possible experience. While tickets are non-refundable, we are happy to transfer your ticket from one slashie to another — please send us an email so we can sort this out seamlessly.

* Please note: Tickets will NOT be sold at the door.

Do I get a Swag Bag?

The Slashie Team wants you to take the //// love home, however, due to the overwhelming response in ticket sales, Slashie swag bags will be available on a first come first serve basis, so come by bright and early (by 9:15AM) to get your hands on some goodies!
