Martin County Emergency Operations Center 800 SE Monterey Road Stuart, FL 34994
Description
One of the most important assets to the NWS warning, forecast, and verification process is the SKYWARN Spotter Network. NWS trained weather spotters provide real-time reports of tornadoes, hail, winds, flooding and hurricane damage. SKYWARN spotters include Ham Radio operators, emergency responders and communication dispatchers, citizen groups and you!
The classes are free, and all you need to do is RSVP and show up! The presentations generally last two hours in length and are free. Full registration will be completed at the class. A National Weather Service meteorologist will discuss various aspects of severe weather, storm spotting, and severe weather safety. At least one SKYWARN spotter class is taught within each county every year - with two or more classes typically conducted within many counties.
Please direct any questions about SKYWARN training classes and other hazardous weather presentations within east central Florida to scott.spratt@noaa.gov
In order to receive a Storm Spotter ID, participants must be at least 18 years of age. Younger children and teenagers are welcome to attend for an educational experience.
