About this event

  • 7 hours

It's that time of year again!

Come join North Sound Trout Unlimited & friends at Howard Miller Steelhead Park in Rockport, WA for Skagit River Speyapalooza: Saturday, May 4th from 10am-4pm. All skill levels welcome - from the newcomer to the seasoned pro. We'll have something tasty for lunch, gear demos, fly tying, small group casting classes, awesome raffle prizes, and much more.

Like last year, we're dedicating more time for folks to get in the water and test out all kinds of spey rods and reels from a variety of vendors. Brand new to the world of spey fishing, or looking to tighten up your form? We have free, small group casting classes-- please register here in advance on Eventbrite. If you'd rather go your own pace, just show up and grab some gear! No need to register for a class.

We want to keep the event fun, affordable, and accessible, but we also rely on your generous support to keep the party goin'. Entry is free, but you'll want to have cash or a card for raffle prizes and lunch donations. We have also cooked up a pretty sweet t-shirt for this year's event, and we are expecting them to go fast. We can guarantee you won't find a shirt this metal for $35 at any other -palooza. Make sure you get one by pre-ordering ahead of time through the NSTU website (simply select the size you want when making your donation). We'll have your shirt for you at Howard Miller, or you can swing by The Confluence Fly Shop after the event in case you can't make it (sorry, no shipping available on shirts!). Also, bring yer waders! If you need waders/boots, let us know at least two weeks in advance. We don't want anything to stand in the way of you and Speyapalooza 2024!

CAMPING

Nothing builds community and unforgettable memories like a campfire, reminding us that we do this crazy fly fishing thing for the people we meet as much as the fish we encounter. NSTU has a small block of campsites at Howard Miller Steelhead Park on May 3rd and 4th. You can reserve and pay for your site through this Eventbrite registration, but please make note of the following:

IMPORTANT NOTE #1: Get the most bang for your buck by bringing friends! Each site can accommodate two tents/rigs. To accommodate as many campers as we can in the limited amount of spaces that we have, we encourage folks to partner up with buddies and split one site. You get to split the cost of a site and camp with friends...we get to make room for as many attendees as we can. Win Win.

IMPORTANT NOTE #2: Campsites are reserved as a packaged two-night deal. There is no option for reserving one night a time, but you also aren't required to camp both days (but it's more fun if you do...)

IMPORTANT NOTE #3: No more than two cars are allowed at a single site. And per the park, you MAY NOT park on the grass.

IMPORTANT NOTE #4: If you need to cancel or make changes to your reservation, you must email northsoundtu@gmail.com immediately. We expect there to be a waitlist, and we want to fill the spots. Don't be a no show, yo.

If you agree to the important notes above, please register through Eventbrite. And if you have questions about how all that works, just reach out!

Frequently asked questions

What will the small group classes look like?

Participants will be divided into groups of ~5 based on skill level and interests. One instructor will be assigned to each group. Participants can bring their own rods/reels or demo some of the equipment provided.

How much does it cost?

Entry and small group classes are $0.00. It's free (but booking in advance through Eventbrite makes planning MUCH easier for us)! Donations are accepted for lunch. Donations are required for raffle tickets and camping. T-shirts are also available for purchase.

What's the schedule?

We'll provide a detailed schedule on our Facebook and Instagram accounts as we get closer to the event. In general, we'll open the "doors" at 10am. There will be a good chunk of small group casting/demo time both before and after lunch (around noon). We'll have a speaker around lunch time, too.

What should I bring?

Bring weather appropriate clothing, your waders (if you want to demo), some cash (if you want raffle tickets or to donate for lunch), and a good attitude! If camping, bring your regular gear, food, and beverages of choice.

Will there be camping again?

NSTU is offering very limited campsites at Howard Miller Steelhead Park on May 3rd and 4th. If interested in reserving a campsite, please read the important notes in the event description above and reserve/pay for your spot through Eventbrite.
