>>>>> JUST OUT - The NJDEP just provided this download about tree canopies: The 3+30+300 Principle Handbook produced by the Yggdrasil - The Living Nordic City project, is now available for free download! It also provides answers to frequently asked questions. Widely adopted across Europe, the 3-30-300 rule offers benchmarks for cities to promote equitable nature access. It dictates that individuals should see 3 trees from their dwelling, have 30% tree canopy in their neighborhood, and live within 300m of a high-quality green space. (300 meters is about 3 city blocks, give or take).

Please join us to continue our discussion from February focusing on the JC Community Forestry Plan - we will begin to unpack the new guidelines as the City gets ready to develop new, updated plan that will guide urban forestry activities here for the next 5 years.
The JC Community Forestry Management Plan (CFMP), which is a 5-year plan the City of Jersey City is about to draft to be delivered to the NJ State Department of Environmental Protection / NJ Forest Service , to remain in compliance as an accredited municipality under the state's program. This is a tremendous opportunity for the community to have input in the canopy restoration efforts, etc., and by design, the guidelines underscore engaging the public to have input into the new plan.
