About SIX:

SIX follows the tale of a young woman brimming with dreams whose structured world of plans and lists shatter. When her baby girl is taken from her at birth and adopted by a local baker, the young woman spends her days secretly caring for her daughter from afar as her teacher. Ultimately, the woman faces life-altering news that forces her to confront her past, redeem the time and pursue her long-lost dreams.

About Black Tie Optional: 17 Stories:

“Black Tie Optional: 17 Stories” is a collection of short stories written by Carrie Knowles, the 2014 Piedmont Laureate. The women in “Black Tie Optional: 17 Stories” are caretakers—daughters, wives, sisters, teachers, and neighbors—whose dreams lie in wait. A fish seller meets God when she dies; a daughter picks out a pink casket for her deceased mom; a woman with Alzheimer’s believes she is related to Clint Eastwood; and a recently engaged woman shares tales with her fiancé about growing up with a blind father. The collection illuminates the ironic distance between what women do and what women want—dreams vs. reality. Through these unvarnished tales, Carrie poses one looming question – Are we putting our dreams and our lives on pause? Are you choosing to live life as a burden or a journey?
