Event description

Description

Are you terrified to sing?

"You made what is (at least for me) quite a traumatic experience, one of the most liberating and enjoyable things I've done"
------
Are you a trained singer who misses having an emotional and spiritual connection to your voice?

"Jon's techniques helped me to explore my emotional range connecting to my true self with my naked voice. It was shocking and liberating!"
------
Are you seeking a mindfulness practice that unites your voice, body, and spirit?

"It was a life altering experience! I left with a clearer outlook and a new grasp on self-love. "
-----
Won't you come Sing a Secret with me?

"It completely changed the way I sing, think about singing, and enjoy doing it all!"

This free two-hour introduction to Inside Voice my mindbody approach to voice and song, will offer you a joyful space to discover the beautiful voice that has been inside you all along.

Whether you are a seasoned professional, a proud shower singer, or someone who has never opened their mouth to sing, Inside Voice allows singers and "non-singers" alike to uncover the power and beauty of their full 5-octave range while developing a deep, emotive connection to their own unique sound.

Through exercises and group songs that are as silly as they are revelatory, Inside Voice shows that the only limits on our voices are the ones we impose on them and that to work on the voice is to work on the self. You’ll learn to harness powerful, heartbreaking, visceral, fragile, and otherworldly sounds you never dreamed were inside you all the while dramatically extending your range, building your confidence, and strengthening the emotional links between you and your voice. Inside Voice synthesizes Jon Stancato's research and training in the extended voice techniques of Roy Hart/Richard Armstrong and Thomas Richards/Grotowski Workcenter.

Classes are 100% free and are held roughly twice a month at Judson Memorial Church.

Most Sing a Secret experiences are followed by a session of Hearing Voices, a bi-monthly candlelit vocal jam session that creates a supportive space for experienced and inexperienced vocalists alike to sing out their joy, sing out their pain, sing out their truth, and sing out their love, healing themselves and others with the power and potential of the human voice. If you'd like to RSVP for that now, you can do so here.

(SIng a Secret is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.)
