Description

The Museum of Russian Art is pleased to present

Sin and Virtue on the Eve of the 1917 Russian Revolutions - A Presentation by Laurie Manchester

During the decades before Russia was embroiled in revolution, Russian Orthodoxy underwent a theological renaissance. Russian theologians and pastors reexamined the means to salvation and the how believers should live their temporal lives. This lecture focuses on how the Russian Orthodox Church, usually viewed as a bastion of tradition, promoted ideas and values commonly associated with modernity in an attempt to save Russia from revolution.
