Simple Colonial Sampler

Throughout the 18th and 19th century, a well brought up young lady learned basic embroidery skills as part of her education. To practice these skills they created samplers, using the various stitches they had learned to make designs that often includes trees, flower, alphabets, housed, biblical quotes and a variety of other thing. These samplers were hung on the wall, cherished as heirlooms and are now collected by both individuals and museums.

We're going to follow this tradition and use a simple sampler to learn basic embroidery stitches that you can use in many other projects. You will have a practice book to use before you put the stitches in your sampler, and hopefully a finished sampler by the time you leave.
