Aperçu

Learn a traditional silversmithing technique of melting and casting silver to create some jewellery.

Learn how to deflt cast a piece of jewellery or metalwork.

Delft casting is a wonderful casting process that is very useful for creating one off pieces or making a cast from a found object. You will melt scrap or grain silver and pour it into a sand mould that you will learn to make. You may bring your own scrap silver or old silver jewellery with you as long as it is hallmarked (please contact us before hand if you wish to work in gold).

We'll have some objects you can use or you can bring something along with you. (Not all objects are suitable but please bring what you have and we can assess it on the day). In the past students have brought shells, acorns, lego, fancy buttons and many more things. We also have plenty of options if you don't have your own item to bring.

We'll teach you how to prepare your mould and model and then safely cast the piece you have chosen. You will then be taught how to clean your casting and we'll help you turn it into a finished piece - be it a pendant, ring or something else.

At the end of the day you'll leave with at least one cast piece of jewellery or trinket - unique to you.

You will have time to create a gorgeous piece of jewellery for yourself, whilst also meeting some lovely like minded people who are all feeling inspired to learn a new hobby and get creative.

This is a full day class starting at 10am and finishing around 4.30/5pm. You'll have around 30 mins to pop out for some lunch.

The cost of your silver is not included in the workshop price and you'll be charged depending on how much stock silver you wish to use. Typically this can be around £5-20 depending on your design.
