Let’s get together and read for a good cause! On Sunday, 6/23 from 3-5 pm, readers will takeover Booksweet (1729 Plymouth Rd., Ann Arbor) for a Silent Reading Party in support of Legacy Unbound, working to co-create a world where books reflect the diversity of human experience, and the stories that live beyond words and pages are valued and respected.
How does this work? Remember "free reading" time in elementary school? It’s that, but with snacks! You bring a book (or buy one at Booksweet!), read to your heart's content, and meet others (if you want to!). We’ll be serving yummy beverages and snacks. While we have padded folding chairs available, readers are encouraged to BYO camping chairs, blankets, and other reading props. Nuola Akinde, Executive Director of Legacy Unbound, will be on-site with information and will give a 4:30 pm mini-presentation on how you can get involved.
Tickets: This is a ticketed fundraiser, with a suggested donation of $5-$55+ with 100% of the net proceeds supporting Legacy Unbound. We're especially big fans of two flagship Legacy Unbound programs that we know you'll be excited to support:
- Erasing the Margins, partnering with Leaders of Color in the book world to offer paid summer internships to Black people, Indigenous people, and People of Color who love books and want to join the industry.
- Nameless Narratives, Legacy Unbound's art exhibit series, exclusively featuring Black, Indigenous, and People of Color artists in neighborhoods and small communities impacted by displacement and gentrification.
Let’s keep the fundraising good times rolling! When you shop Booksweet in-store or online on Sunday, 6/23, Booksweet will donate 20% of your total purchase to Legacy Unbound. This is valid on all titles, merchandise, pre-orders, and special orders.
Booksweet will be open from noon to 7 pm on Sunday, 6/23 for in-store shopping. Web orders can be placed at all hours of the day (with shipping worldwide); just write “Legacy Unbound” in the comments section at checkout and we’ll make sure your purchase is included!
