WHO WE ARE:

From World Class to Your Class

Silent Command is educational training for all drum majors, section leaders, colorguard, and percussion in the marching arts. We bring the top leaders from world class drum corps to teach you!

Learn. Lead. Innovate.

OVERVIEW OF THE SYMPOSIUM:

The Silent Command Symposium will take place on Friday July 12th through Sunday July 14th at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. These three days will take attendees through a series of drum major, leadership, and color guard, and percussion training sessions and presentations from our world class staff. This is an opportunity to learn from the top performers in the marching activity to be the best member for your band.

What makes this symposium special this year?

We aim to provide a safe and friendly environment for students with multiple opportunities to develop and refine skills required of them to lead efficient rehearsals for their band program.

NEW THIS YEAR:

The 2024 Silent Command Symposium will be tailored similar to a drum corps audition camp, but focus mainly on an educational experience instead of an audition. We will have 2-minutes of music, drill, and choreography written to perform a "mini show" at the end of the camp. The opportunity for drum majors to lead and run a real rehearsal while section leaders learn how to teach and correct drill/marching as well as music sectionals. Colorguard guard will perform learn work on equipment of their choice. Every student will be taught tips on rehearsal etiquette and hone in their skills to have better rehearsals for their band back at home!

All attendees are encouraged to bring their primary instruments and any color guard equipment if possible!

As with all Silent Command events, there will be full group leadership sessions, presentations, games, and more!

WHAT YOU RECEIVE:

Each drum major attendee will have the opportunity to conduct and lead an ensemble in mock rehearsal sessions! Music scores will be sent out prior to the event.

Student Leader Attendees:

For the non-drum major attendees, you have the opportunity to lead music sectionals (of the music selections to be conducted by the drum majors) and learn how to correct marching mistakes while cleaning drill in a real rehearsal. Music will be sent out closer to the event for you to learn to the best of your ability.

Color Guard Attendees:

For the color guard attendees, you will participate in all leadership sessions with the other students. During sectionals, you will breakout and learn technique, fundamentals, and choreography that will be showcased on the last day for the mini show.

Percussion Attendees:

For the percussion attendees, you will participate in all leadership sessions with the other students. During sectionals, you will breakout and learn music and get tips on teaching music to your section. During rehearsals, you will play and work with drum majors on field timing.
