About this event

  • 2 hours

Historic Congressional Cemetery hosts special guest, Death Project Manager, for a special pop up Silent Book Club of Death - a book club for introverts - on Saturday, May 11th!

Like book clubs, but want to read your own book?

Want to reflect on your mortality in the company of polite bookworms?

Looking for an anti-social social club, where you can meet people then politely ignore them?

Come read and mingle with new, bookish friends at this special edition of Silent Book Club of Death! Bring whatever book you happen to be reading - related to the theme of death / dying / grief / aging / mortality - to read in companionable silence, then share out about it with your new, bookish friends.

Even if you choose not to read a death-themed book and just want to read quietly in a death positive space, come join us!

Not sure what to read? We will have books you can browse for inspiration. We hope you will join us and dedicate some time to reading and reflection!

Schedule:

10 AM - 10:30 AM: Meet and chat

10:30 AM - 10:45 AM: Introductions + overview of Silent Book Club of Death

10:45 AM - 11:30 AM: Silent reading

11:30 AM - 12PM: Chat about what you've read and share quotes, insights, or questions that arose for you

Catherine, your Death Project Manager, is the creator of the Mortality Workbook, a toolkit to collect what your loved ones should know before you go, so that you can rest in peace. She has previously spoken at Historic Congressional Cemetery virtually during Death Doula Days, and has hosted Silent Book Club of Death pop ups worldwide. Learn more at deathprojectmanager.com and on Instagram (@deathprojectmanager).

See you in the chapel of the Historic Congressional Cemetery on Saturday, May 11th at 10AM!

Any questions? Reach out to Laura, the cemetery's Death Doula in Residence, who will be welcoming Catherine in person and co-hosting this gathering. You can reach her at DeathDoula@Congressionalcemetery.org
