ACM Special Interest Group on Computers and Society (SIGCAS)

Keynote addresses from award winners  in addition to panels discussions integrating social issues in the computing industry.

Deanna Kosuraju, the recipient of the SIGCAS Making a Difference Award will be giving a keynote address September 9 on her work with Global Tech Women, a network of women in technology offering resources, inspiring role models, mentoring and creating communities around the world.We&#x27;re also organizing two panels that day, Computing industry issues in a post-COVID world and Integrating social issues in Computing Education. John Sims, one of our panelists, is a Denver based Technology &amp; Product Leader, who has been working at &quot;Mission Driven&quot; companies that combine a profit motive with social purposes. Michelle Trim, who contributes a column to the SIGCAS newsletter, most recently, &quot;Refusing to Unmake the Lemonade, or How not to Go Back to Normal&quot; will join the education panel.We have two panels planned for September 10, Integrating social issues in the computing industry, and Climate change, sustainability, and computing, as well as a Town Hall meeting. Steve Easterbrook, director of the School of the Environment at the University of Toronto, will be one of the panelists on the climate change panel and will speak of the role of computer science on these issues, including climate informatics and climate models.Please bring your questions and issues related to SIGCAS future directions to the Town Hall as all the board members will be present.
