St. Ignatius’ Black Student Union Presents<h3>Black Excellence: A Harlem Renaissance Experience</h3>Step back into the 1920s and immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Harlem, New York—a time and place that marked the Golden Age of African American culture. The Harlem Renaissance was more than a movement; it was a celebration of Black identity, community, and resilience. It was an era when Black artists, poets, musicians, and dancers expressed their pride and creativity, reflecting the struggles of inequality and discrimination while embracing newfound freedom.Through art, music, poetry, and dance, this revolutionary moment laid the foundation for generations to come, inspiring the fight for equality, self-expression, and cultural pride. Join us in honoring the legacy of those who overcame oppression with their powerful voices and creative brilliance. The Harlem Renaissance remains a timeless testament to the resilience, innovation, and enduring strength of the African American community.Harlem Renaissance Elegance Step into the era of creativity, glamour, and sophistication! Guests are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the 1920s and 1930s with attire that reflects the iconic style of the Harlem Renaissance.<ul><li>For Women: Think flapper-style dresses, fringe, beads, feathers, satin gloves, and vintage-inspired jewelry. Dresses with dropped waists, bold patterns, or shimmering embellishments are perfect. Add a headband, cloche hat, or faux fur stole for an extra touch of flair.</li><li>For Men: Opt for dapper suits, pinstripes, suspenders, and bow ties. Fedoras, pocket squares, and two-tone shoes will complete the look. A classic vest and tie combo also channels the spirit of the era.</li></ul>Celebrate the rich culture and elegance of the time by incorporating vintage-inspired elements and bold colors like gold, black, deep red, and emerald green.

<h3>Seating and Ticket Information</h3><h4>This year, the BSU Showcase will have limited seating due to construction. All ticket purchases include a dinner ticket. There are two seating areas:</h4><ul><li>Table seating will be for SI Families, Friends, Alumni, Faculty &amp; Staff. Please note that there is limited table seating.</li><li>Bleacher seats will be for all SI/FSA students and visiting students. All guests are welcome to purchase bleacher seating.</li></ul>

<h3>About SI's Black Student Union</h3>Now in its 53rd year at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, the Black Student Union (BSU) exists to show students of color that they are not on the outside looking in and can make a difference in what goes on around them. Members of BSU strive to learn and teach the St. Ignatius community about the richness of African American culture, past and present.

<h3>About AALPA</h3>The St. Ignatius African American and Latino Parents Association (AALPA) is a multicultural, multiracial group of volunteer parents, grandparents and guardians. AALPA promotes family equity, education, support and mentorship via social and networking opportunities. Through outreach efforts in our communities, AALPA seeks to raise awareness of the educational opportunities at St. Ignatius College Preparatory for Latino and African American students. AALPA partners with the Admissions Department to enhance enrollment diversity. AALPA supports SI’s mission of enhancing the diversity of cultures in the school and is committed to fostering safe, welcoming environments wherein all forms of diversity are honored and valued.Other Goals of AALPA: Support the student efforts of ALAS (Association of Latin American Students and BSU (Black Student Union).Collaborative efforts with SI Parent Groups, The Ignatian Guild, SI Father's Club and SIPAC.
