This class will be taught in 6 consecutive weekly sessions of 90 minutes each.

Our experienced instructors, Dean and Fran, will guide you through the intricacies of short form improv, emphasizing the fundamental skills needed for successful comedic improvisation. While the class primarily focuses on short form, we also incorporate skills pertinent to long form when applicable, giving you the tools to incorporate into your long form.

Throughout the course, side coaching will be provided to help you fine-tune your skills and provide personalized feedback on your performances. This individual attention ensures that you receive guidance tailored to your specific needs, allowing for rapid growth and development as an improviser.

Above all, our emphasis is on having fun! Improv is all about embracing the moment, taking risks, and enjoying the creative process. These games and exercises are not only entertaining during class but can also be easily adapted for online use, at work or continued practice with friends in your home town. You'll discover the joy of bringing the house down with your hilarious and spontaneous performances.

As you progress through the course, you'll explore a variety of improvisational games and exercises. Musical improv will allow you to create spontaneous songs; guessing games will challenge your ability to anticipate and react swiftly; group games will strengthen your teamwork skills and teach you the importance of collaboration and support.

Pun games will unleash your wit and wordplay, pushing the boundaries of clever humor. Character work will enable you to inhabit a variety of personalities, developing distinct voices, physicality, and emotional depth. Physical games will engage your body and help you communicate through movement and gesture. Scenic games will allow you to explore storytelling, relationships, and creating memorable scenes.

At the end of the course, we celebrate your progress with a class show. This culminating event gives you the opportunity to showcase your newfound skills, perform in front of your peers, and experience the exhilaration of a live improv performance.

Introducing Dr Dean (disclaimer: not a doctor of improv), our extraordinary online improv instructor and self-proclaimed "improv powerhouse"! Dean has been honing their skills in the world of improv since the Spice Girls dominated the charts. Legend has it that Dean's improv prowess is so powerful that they once made a mime break character and laugh out loud! Talk about breaking down the invisible walls of comedy!

Trained in the renowned UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade) style, including the game of the scene technique, Dean has honed their skills under the guidance of esteemed UCB alumni such as Terry Withers, Will Hines, Billy Merritt, Shannon O'Neil, Sarah Claspell, and Jake Regal. Their expertise in comedic timing, scene initiation, and heightening has been shaped by the world's greatest improv school. Dean is also a strong advocate of Paul Vaillancourt's Triangle of the Scene

As the creative director and founding member of the esteemed Wallflowers improv comedy troupe, Dean brings a wealth of practical experience to their teachings. They have mastered both short form and long form improv, captivating audiences in their home city of Lancaster. This hands-on experience has deepened their understanding of stage dynamics, ensemble work, and the art of delivering unforgettable performances.
