About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Shorebirds are a fascinating and declining group of birds that includes Sandpipers, Plovers, Oystercatchers, Avocets, and more. They can be extremely challenging to identify, but their great diversity, social nature, and potential for rarities can enliven any trip to a beach or marsh. Learn about their ecology, behavior, conservation challenges, and the finer points of ID in this online workshop.

    Thursday June 27, 6:30-8:30pm.

Gabriel Willow has been a lover of nature his whole life. Raised in rural Maine, he followed his passion for wild places and wildlife - particularly birds - to Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Vermont and southern Mexico, and earned a degree in ecology. In 2003, he found nature in the least likely of places: New York City.

He’s been here ever since, working with the Prospect Park Audubon Center, NYC Audubon, the Bryant Park Corporation, Wave Hill, Lincoln Center, and other organizations and cultural institutions, helping fellow New Yorkers experience the same incredible thrill of discovering interesting wildlife in the midst of the city. His winter harbor ecology tours were called "The Best Thing About Winter in NYC" by Time Out New York , and his self-designed eco-cruises and nature tours have been written up in The New York Times, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, and more.
