Histroy of Sharks Cove Surf Contest

The Sharks Cove Invitational was started in 2000 by some orginial Sharks Cove regulars. The orginal intention was to have a good time and made for an excuse to get the community together for a fun event. Now fueled by the desire to give back, the contest has been revived by Cory Parello, Lance Lubarky, Eric Janecka, Kirk McGinty, Brian Waters, and ORIGINAL member Uncle Joe Henry.

Thank you all for your support!:)

Carla Alfaro-Mata

"We come from a very humble family that has
always tried to support those around us faced with
challenges without asking for anything in return.
Our family was recently faced with difficult news
which drastically changed our lives within a matter
of hours."
"Carla, our seven-year old little drama queen, was
diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis
(LCH), a rare form of cancer. Carla has
demonstrated love for the arts, she is very artistic,
loves to draw, swim, play with her dolls and is
fascinated with soccer, butterflies and Stitch from
Lilo & Stitch. Carla is very active and occasionally
she also participates in civil engagement and
supports in food distributions."
"Carla comes from a loving family: her mother Consuelo, father Beto, and brothers
Danny (19) and Carlos (4). Both Consuelo and Beto have been volunteer soccer
coaches for over ten years developing the next generation of soccer players in the
community. Danny is finishing his second year at Sacramento State and for the last two
years has been involved in fundraising for St. Judes Children Research Hospital, not
realizing that we would be faced with the same struggle. Carlitos is a playful loving ray
of sunshine, always so loving and greeting all with his beautiful smile."
"Carla will be entering her first phase of intensive chemotherapy next week, and will
need ongoing care and treatment for the next year. Chemotherapy treatments will start
on May 7, 2024. The family will face financial impact due to taking a leave from their
respective jobs to care for Carla as she undergoes her treatments. There will be weekly
trips to Stanford that will need to take place for chemotherapy sessions. Both her parents will be at her side for treatment. Donations received will be used to cover the
families basic needs, gas, and mortgage."
