Shakespeare is the story of Shakespeare as it has never been told before: in a single play that covers his entire life, from childhood to death. Remarkably (but truly), there has never been a biographical play, or biodrama, that tells the whole story of the greatest playwright who ever lived. Until now…Shakespeare captured the essential truth about humanity, so it is perhaps unsurprising that his own life should resemble one of his plays, or more accurately a series of plays: Comedy, in which he and his fellow players steal a theatre; History, in which they become involved, unwittingly or otherwise, in a plot to overthrow the Queen, Elizabeth I; and, finally, Tragedy, in which he faces a long-overdue reckoning with his past.Shakespeare is a lifetime’s labour of love by playwright Martin Keady; the culmination of more than 30 years of study and research. It has already been performed at The Rose Theatre in London, on the remains of an Elizabethan theatre in which Shakespeare himself performed, and the aim in 2025 is that it will receive both its first full stage production and an audio/podcast recording, ideally in The Rose or another Elizabethan theatre.Freshfest 2025 is a series of play readings and that is completely in keeping with Shakespeare’s world, which was more verbal and auditory than ours; Elizabethans went to hear a play, not see it.Consequently, we hope that you enjoy hearing Shakespeare.For more information, please visit: https://theshakespeareplays.com
