SF Japantown: Then & Now
Join us for an exciting fall program for Middle School Youth exploring the rich history and vibrant culture of San Francisco's Japantown! Discover the fascinating stories of the people who built this community and the struggles they faced along the way. Throughout the program we'll take a stroll through the bustling streets of modern-day Japantown and experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of this unique neighborhood. This event is the perfect opportunity to learn something new, make new friends, and have a great time!
Location: Studio Gen, 22 Peace Plaza, Suite 505, San Francisco, CA 94115
Date and Time: Sundays , April 14, 21, 28; May 5, 12, 19, 26; Youth Showcase Sunday, May 26th (12pm-4pm)Youth Showcase on Midori no Hi - Green Day. June 2nd, July 7, 14
Details: We will learn about Obon practice, and Japanese crafts such as bookbinding . We'll meet community leaders and take field trips within Japantown to learn about its people, history and culture. Most Sundays will start and end our sessions at Studio Gen (Suite 505 in Japan Center East Mall) unless otherwise advised during the sessions.
Registration Information: Limited space available. Youth entering 4th grade are welcome to join as well. Sign-up is on a rolling basis. Cost is $35.00 for the entireSpring course! At checkout, only register for 1 day (ie. May 19) and registration will be applied to the entire Sprng/ summer session, April 14- July 14, 2024.

About GenRyu Arts
The mission of GenRyu Arts is to promote, present and participate in Japanese and Japanese diaspora culture through traditional and contemporary music and dance forms. GenRyu Arts operates Studio Gen, a hub for intergenerational/multi-use and co-working space to be used by Asian American artists and community.
