Want to learn how to alter your own clothing but don’t know where to start? This class will walk you through the foundational skills of garment alterations in a clear, approachable way. We’ll cover the basics of marking, hemming, adjusting seams, shoulders, and understanding garment fit—so you can confidently make adjustments at home.
This is an instructional class. We will not alter garments during class, but you will leave with a clear plan and understanding of how to approach your own projects.
What to Expect
- Overview of basic alteration techniques.
- Learn how to properly mark garments for adjustments.
- Understand hemming options and seam adjustments.
- Discuss shoulder adjustments and general garment fit.
- Personalized discussion about your specific alteration goals.
Students are encouraged to bring a garment they would like to alter so we can review it together and help you create a plan for completing it at home.
What to Bring
- A garment you wish to alter.
- Pins.
- Marking pen or tailor’s chalk.
- Yard stick, ruler, or tape measure.
- Any other sewing tools you already own.
If you don’t have these items yet, don’t worry—we will review what tools are helpful and what to add to your sewing kit.
If you have questions about what to bring or whether your project is appropriate for class, please contact the store and we will connect you directly with the instructor.
