About this event

Join one of Factory 3's instructors, Stacy Owen or Michelle Kruegar, who will help you work on your project in a private (one student) lesson. Bring YOUR project, materials, questions, sewing machine (optional), and pattern to get started, or to finish.

About the instructors:

Stacy Owen’s journey of bringing her designs to life began more than 20 years ago, when she learned to make quilts from her in-laws. She makes both modern and art quilts, as well as sewing bags, purses, and clothing. She services and restores antique, vintage, and modern computerized sewing machines. Stacy is a member of Maine Modern Quilters and Studio Art Quilt Associates.

Michelle Kruegar, originally from Massachusetts, has lived in Maine since 2015. She studied Fashion Design in high school, and has a degree in Retail Fashion from Becker College. While working in the medical and retail industries, she maintained sewing and crocheting as both a hobby and a part-time business. Michelle continually improves her skills by challenging herself with new patterns and projects. After making her daughter’s wedding dress, she wants to expand into formal wear and costuming, including both clothing and accessories.

Katie Champlin is a Fashion & Textile designer from Portland, Maine. After earning a BFA from the Maine College of Art and Design, she refined her craft within an esteemed fashion design studio nestled in the heart of the NYC garment district. She returned to Maine in early 2024, where she was excited to reintegrate into the Portland art community. She challenges her practice by participating in competitions and shows including the BIAAF international design contest and Runway For Hope in Portland, ME. Katie specializes in apparel design, soft goods design, print design, mending, and upcycling.
