Welcome to the Vancouver Black Therapy and Advocacy Foundation's first event!The event is a fundraising event for our foundation titled Set It Off taking place from 2-7pm on Saturday, August 13th at the Progress Lab — 1422 Williams St, Vancouver. We will be featuring a Black flea market, live music, food, merch sales and a raffle fundraiser. Guests are welcome to drop in for any amount of time, and enjoy the numerous opportunities to support the foundation, engage with the entertainment, and connect with members of the community! All are welcome and we look forward to meeting &amp; seeing everyone. The VBT&amp;AF is a not-for-profit initiative that aims to raise funds to make mental health support more accessible to Black community members in the Vancouver Lower Mainland. This grassroots initiative was launched through GoFundMe in June 2020 in light of the attacks targeted towards the Black community and the financial difficulties often experienced by these folks. With the understanding of the disparity of access for Black mental health resources, our foundation connects members with accredited and recommended local Black counsellors and therapists. Shortly after the initial GoFundMe was created, the VBT&amp;AF received an unanticipated amount of donations, which allowed us to support more individuals than expected and transform the fund into a larger foundation. We are currently a small team of BIPOC individuals, all passionate about mental health for the Black community and looking forward to expanding this foundation to serve all those who need it.Since our emergence, we have been excited to host an event to bring together staff, volunteers, allies, contractors and community members that have supported us over our first two years! We currently have a fundraising campaign going on to continue raising funds for free therapy for community members, and figured that an event would be a wonderful opportunity to both raise money and connect with the incredible individuals involved with our work.
