Time: 4:00–8:00pm (light supper at 6:00pm)

Where: Dutchess County Farm & Home Center (2715 Route 44, Millbrook NY)

Cost: $5 for one class, $10 for two classes (includes program(s) and supper). Pay at the door via cash, check, or municipal voucher made payable to DCPF (cash/check preferred).


As always, it is a pleasure to once again welcome the knowledgeable staff from the NYS Department of State for two courses this spring:


Session 1: State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) Basics, 4:00–6:00pm

This introduction to the State Environmental Quality Review Act includes an overview of
the environmental assessment form (EAF), Type I, Type II, and Unlisted actions and the
sequence of making a positive or negative declaration on a project’s potential to have
an adverse impact on the environment. The relationship between the administration of
local regulations and SEQR will also be discussed.


Session 2: Skills That Make Great Board Members, 6:30-8:00pm

What makes a great land use board member? This course examines some of thenecessary skills needed for new members and should serve as a refresher for moreseasoned members alike. Topics include board procedures and applicable laws to morepractical matters, including conducting site visits, working with consultants, avoiding exparte communications, and working with the public. How to build your technicalknowledge and find assistance when needed, as well as utilizing the comprehensiveplan for your decisions, will also be discussed.


SPEAKERS are all Local Government Specialists with the New York State Department of State, Division of Local Government Services.

Board members may be eligible for 2 hours (Session 1) and/or 1 hour (Session 2) of required training credits.

Code enforcement officials may apply to use these courses towards their professional development electives.

Attendance certificates will be available at the close of each session the evening of the event. Please note we cannot mail certificates out after the event.
