Kennedy Contemporary is thrilled to announce Sense Memories, a solo exhibition featuring the works of artist, Elyse Katz. The exhibition will run from April 10th to May 5th, 2024, at Kennedy Contemporary.
Elyse Katz, a resident of Newport Beach, draws inspiration from the depths of her personal experiences to create mesmerizing abstract artworks. Describing her paintings as "landscapes of my inner world," Katz translates her visceral recollections into vibrant compositions that resonate with emotion and introspection.
Katz's creative process is an exploration of spontaneity and experimentation. Each piece begins without preconceived notions, evolving through layers of acrylic paint, oil pastels, and found materials such as vintage text and typography. The result is a tapestry of textures and colors that weave together to tell a unique narrative.
In Sense Memories, Katz invites viewers into her world of contrasts and complexities. Bold, opaque color fields intersect with transparent washes, while defined edges merge with blurred boundaries. The influence of physical landscapes and architectural rhythms is evident, reflecting Katz's keen observation of urban and rural vistas, weathered surfaces, and intricate patterns.
Despite entering the realm of fine art later in life, Katz's dedication to her craft has been unwavering. Over the past two decades, she has honed her skills under the guidance of renowned artists such as Nicholas Wilton, Pamela Caughey, and Krista Harris. Her talent has garnered recognition, with her works finding homes in private collections worldwide, thanks to collaborations with interior designers and representation by Kennedy Contemporary.
