About this event

Join the Travel Africa Movement for an amazing 9 days and 8 nights Senegal. Your time will begin in Dakar, Senegal’s capital and largest city. You’ll visit the African Renaissance Monument, Goree Island and the House of Slaves, the Village des Arts, the Museum of Black Civilizations, and the vibrant markets for which Dakar is known. You’ll have the opportunity to purchase African textiles, art, and other goods, and even have custom clothing made. You’ll also have the chance to see Senegal’s contemporary art scene during the biennial Dak’Art exhibition. Outside of Dakar, you’ll visit a local village and Lake Retba, more popularly known as the Pink Lake. You’ll visit the salt mining operations on the surrounding salt dunes and have to chance to ride ATVS through the dunes or swim in the lake. Next, we’ll move on to the Petite Coast, the Senegalese beach mecca popular with locals and tourists alike. We’ll visit several of the coastal towns where you’ll have a drumming class and city tours. Your trip will end with a Farewell dinner party, complete with a traditional Senegalese meal, sabar drummers and griot, and a beachfront veneration and prayer, where we’ll pay homage to the ancestors as you prepare for your return home.
