Semiotics on the Island 2024

Welcome to Semiotics on the Island 2024! Join us for a fascinating exploration of signs, symbols, and meanings at the beautiful natural location of Ikaria Island in Greece.

During this week, we will explore several themes within the topic ‘Semiotics of Humanity: Animals-People-Machines’.

Humans have evolved as organic beings. With the advent of biotechnologies and artificial intelligence, it seems we're aiming for independence from our biological roots. Is this the beginning of the end of Homo sapiens era as we know it? Could future humans diverge from us as significantly as we have from chimpanzees?"

The questions sound philosophical, but we will try to understand what lessons can we take for our everyday life and work from the deeper understanding of the theme.

Both commercial and academic semioticians are welcome to participate.
