WHAT IS SELF-LOVE?
Self-love, defined as "love of self" or "regard for one's own happiness or advantage", has been conceptualized both as a basic human necessity and as a moral flaw. Boulder Burlesque is here to bring full appreciation to the bodies we were given, and celebrate just how fundamentally good and necessary self-love is.
In the words of Sonya Renee Taylor, “How we value and honor our own bodies impacts how we value and honor the bodies of others.” Self-love is mutually healing. Self-love is medicine for everyone. Self-love is a connective force that carries us through connection and isolation. In this moment when we are asked to come back together more bravely, boldly and vulnerably than ever before to care for each other, self-love is essential.
This showcase will include the debut of our Beginner Troupe, select treats from our Advanced Troupe performers, and opportunities for audience engagement, all in the theme of radical self-love.

About the organizer
Boulder Burlesque is a performance dance troupe based in Boulder, Colorado. Our troupe combines the art of Burlesque with contemporary dance and theater to create evocative individual and group performances. Our mission is to explore sensuality and intimacy through the art of movement while celebrating the sacred human nature of sexuality.
We strive to reclaim sexual expression as a sacred art, to provide healing through movement, and to gather people together who support the joy of fully embodied expression in all forms.
What to expect at a Boulder Burlesque performance:
-Our performers bring a range of interdisciplinary talents to the stage, including classic burlesque, neo-burlesque, comedy & satire, and avant-garde performance art.
-Each act is like a mini-play, and delivers its own narrative, story, tone and message.
-Arrive early to get a good seat! Don’t be shy; sit close to the stage. Our performers love to engage and interact with the audience.
-Boulder Burlesque aims to create a safer, conscious and consensual space for all gender, sexuality, orientation, race, age and ability. Practice introducing yourself with your preferred pronouns when you arrive, and ask for consent before engaging in physical contact.
-Encourage the performers! Be vocal. Cheer, whistle, and applaud. Use respectful, encouraging language.
-Respect the performers. Keep your phone turned off and refrain from taking any pictures. Do not touch the performers (this would violate the rules of consent!).
-Light refreshments are available for a small charge at the door. There is no alcohol served.
-Expect the unexpected. Come with an open mind and prepare to be entertained.
