"&amp; seeking" is an immersive performance by OYSTERKNIFE interrogating their Afro-Diasporic lineages inside the Christian church, using Igbo masquerade, church mime, experimental video, house music, and choreography. The NQAF showing is a preview building towards our full show at Grace Cathedral in February 2024.OYSTERKNIFE––derived from a famous Zora Neale Hurston essay––was born out of a longtime creative friendship between Gabriele Christian and Chibueze Crouch. Feeding a desire to subvert theatrical upbringings that often ignored our complex Black + Queer (or BlaQ) experiences, we’ve formed an interdisciplinary approach that nourishes fuller versions of our work. Through nonhierarchical collaboration, we revise common historical narratives to negotiate with the archives on our own terms.For blind and visually impaired audience members, Queer Arts Festival partners with Gravity Access Services to offer live audio description and haptic access tours for "&amp; seeking." Audio description is a live audio track spoken by a professional audio describer to audience members with visual impairments through a wireless headset system. You will receive a headset at the venue. It provides clear and engaging descriptions of the meaningful visual details of a performance. Haptic access tours (20-30 minutes) are a live pre-show tour that allows patrons to experience—through touch and their own movement— the space, performers, costumes and objects in addition to key movement elements in the performance.
