Through Cultural and Linguistic Anthropology and Theater, the class encourages men and women to think critically about rape, culture, gender roles, and the beliefs systems that keep people from seeing rape and understanding sexual violence more broadly..

Seeing Rape 2020 is a performance written by John Jay College students. These men and women playwrights represent sexual violence in their own words, dialects and languages in engaging and novel ways. In short plays, the way rape intersects with hyper-masculinity, religion, traditional cultural practices, dating violence, coming of age, and social media will be examined through drama. Join us for what promises to be innovative theater with New York City’s most talented professional actors. A discussion with playwrights, actors and special guests will follow the performance.
