As the Earth passes by Mars, the Detroit Observatory takes a closer looks at our solar system's rusty, red neighbor.

<p>The Detroit Observatory's Seeing in Depth programs are a chance to take a closer look at some of the people, places, and sciences from the observatory's history. M﻿ars has occupied the imagination of earthlings for as long as they've pondered the night sky. As the red planet moves across Michigan's winter night sky, the Detroit Observatory will point its telescopes towards the red planet. We will also share stories about humanity's understanding of Mars through the 20th century and astronomers from the DO who helped explore it.</p><p>Talks and presentations begin at 8PM. T﻿elescope observing is weather dependent. </p>
