Seed Paper Workshop

At 2,200 acres, Freshkills Park will be almost three times the size of Central Park and the largest park developed in New York City in over 100 years. Free tours offer insights into ongoing development and unmatched views, and recreational programs provide opportunities to experience the hills and waterways before the park officially opens.

Freshkills Park

Visit the Greenbelt Nature Center and create “plantable” recycled paper while learning about the importance of native plants! The paper is made by blending old newsprint and junk mail to create new paper pulp. Participants add a native seed mix that gets pressed into paper sheets. The paper can be used for cards or letters, and it can be planted so the embedded seeds can grow. The workshop is open to all ages, but is recommended for children 6+. This program is free but registration is required.
