ASIS International

Security Cares is an <A HREF="https://www.asisonline.org/About-ASIS/Pages/default.aspx" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ASIS International </A>community safety and security initiative designed to educate managers of small/medium-size businesses and cultural/community institutions—places that traditionally have not considered themselves targets—about the fundamentals of security prevention and preparedness.
This free program is designed for those with a role in the safety and security of small-to-medium-sized businesses  and community and cultural institutions, including houses of worship, hospitals, nonprofits, schools, retailers and restaurants, as well as law enforcement and first responders. 
Security Cares is <A HREF="https://securityexpo.asisonline.org" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">held in conjunction with ASIS 2017</A>.

8:30-10:15 AM - Active Shooter/Assailant: Understanding the Current Threat Landscape facing Small and Medium-Sized Businesses In today’s risk environment, no business is immune to violence. Learn best practices from our expert panel who will provide a high-level overview of steps small/medium-size businesses and community and cultural institutions can take to both prepare and respond to an active shooter/assailant incident. Insights will cover identifying previolence indicators, the importance of a crisis management plan and how to access free resources available through local law enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security.

This session transcends the classroom and places attendees in a real-life scenario—providing an ideal forum for evaluating response and the ability to leverage technical assets, systems, and tools.

Nice, Ohio State University, and Berlin all experienced active shooter incidents that caused mass casualties and chaos for civilians and law enforcement. Faced with these complex scenarios, security organizations must update their protection programs, emergency plans, and training to mitigate catastrophic events. Consider the DHS Active Threat Program, which includes strategic priorities and guidance such as training for civilians and law enforcement officers to enhance the awareness, preparedness, and resilience of an individual should an active threat incident occur.
